Subject: Can I NNTP from Mosaic ?
Howdy,
Can I read news using NNTP from my local news NNTP server using Mosaic, or is
there a gateway system that can interface between Mosaic and NNTP, or Moasic
and CNEWS ?
thanks
john

Dave,
what are you referring to? Windows Sockets is an _interface_ for network
programming under Microsoft Windows which is based on the socket paradigm
from BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution). IMHO the current version is 1.1.
The Windows Socket _Specifictaion_ provides
- a single API to which application developers can program and software
vendors can conform,
- a binary interface .
Normally the Windows Sockets are implemented as an DLL (winsock.dll).
Application programs (e.g. WinQVT) reside on top of that DLL. There are
different implementations of the winsock.dll (Peter Tattam's, Microsoft's
DOS TSR based, Microsoft's VxD based, ...). On the API side these
implementations offer mainly the same, they have to comply with the
current Windows Socket Specification (1.1). AFAIK Peter Tattam's DLL offers
V1.1 and beyond. All these implementations are in various states (alphas,
betas and released versions). Is _this_ what you are referring to?
Dave, most people in Usenet are willing to help, but you should at least
provide the minimum information required to determine _what_ you are asking.
Regards,
Max

Subject: Auto-launch Trumpet (SLIP-mode)
When I use Trumpet (Winsock vers. 1.0a) on top of my Packet Driver, it will
launch automatically when I double-click on (for example) QVTNET.
Is it possible for this to happen when I use Trumpet in SLIP mode? In other
words, could I double-click on QVTNET, and have that action cause TRUMPET to
load and execute the commands in LOGIN.CMD?
Otherwise, should I make/modify a PIF file which would do this?
-Thanks, Greg_Kaisen@QuickMail.Yale.Edu

For what it's worth, WinQVT/Net v3.97 runs fine here under WFWG with NETBUI and
Daytona TCP/IP - I just logged in and out of the QVT FTP server five times from
another node without any trouble. Sounds like a synergism with the Novell ODI
drivers - let the finger-pointing begin!
